NEW YORK, Jamaica transplant to New York, Candice Mckoy, stars in her short film The Turning Point, in which a vivacious, loving couple’s marriage is tested when the shock of breast cancer creates fear and distance. The Turning Point raises questions of love in illness, marital dependence, femininity in the body, and more to compose a symphony of pain in the sudden reality of a breast cancer diagnosis.

A member of the Actor’s Studio and a Audelco Award nominee, Candice Mckoy paves the way for conversation at the intersection of breast cancer and African-American womanhood. “The Turning Point” has come highly anticipated in 2018 for its powerful representation of breast cancer in the black female body and the radiating honesty in the lead couple’s subliminal conflict. As producer and writer Katherine Margules puts it, “‘The Turning Point’ speaks genuinely to the lived experience of many modern couples and offers a voice that is stunningly relevant to love and disease today.”

As Sundance writer and producer Darci Picoult writes of Candice’s past performances, “Candice Mckoy is a gifted actress with a deep emotional reservoir and powerful presence.” With the directorial power of Alrick Brown, who won the Sundance World Audience Award in 2011 for his film “Kinyarwanda”, Candice’s work in “The Turning Point” is sure to give the same strength to this dynamic story.
