AJ Epyx Productions has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Seed&Spark to raise funds and loans for their upcoming indie western episodic series, American Gunslingers. “This is a story that goes beyond the standard good guys versus bad guys theme in classic westerns” said Director Andre Joseph, who also helped create the story and plays a key role.
American Gunslingers is a multi-cultural, character-driven tale about the power of love: How it can redeem a lost soul and how it can also destroy a good one”.
American Gunslingers tells the tale of two young brothers (played by Joseph and Chris Corulla, Jr.) of different races in the late 1800s who witness the brutal murder of their parents. Reunited as men, the maps tattooed on their arms lead them to the cache of jewels stolen from the murderers.
The screenplay was written by award-winning Long Island screenwriter Drew Henriksen who previously wrote and produced the 2016 western short, Power of Prayer. “This was originally planned as a full-length feature film” said Joseph.
“Unfortunately, we realized the logistical and financial difficulties in producing a western independently in expensive restoration parks with period costumes, props, and of course horses. Then as we launched this Seed & Spark campaign, coronavirus happened, and it has made things much more difficult for all of us. However, this time has given my team and I some clarity on what we believe is a better direction for this project: An episodic series”.
Filming of the 10 episodes will take place in late 2020 in locations around Long Island, NY; New Milford, CT; and Danbury, CT. The Seed&Spark campaign not only needs to raise at least 80% of its fundraising goal of $15,000 but also asks for loans in its “Wishlist” which includes costumes, horses, locations, travel, props, equipment, makeup, and legal fees. The deadline for the campaign is Saturday, May 9, 2020.
