Harbor, Paul Marques Duarte’s Live Action Short Film Touches on European Immigrant Crisis

Director Paul Marques Duarte and Producer Thomas Guentch’s award winning film Harbor touches on the story of a kind hearted teacher who is forced to make the choice of hiding a migrant child or giving him over to the authorities. This topical film has won numerous accolades at international film festivals around the world including the audience award at the Cleveland International Film Festival.

Synopsis: A night on high voltage on a ferry to England: Adèle, an English teacher, is hiding a 15 years old migrant among her students on board.

From a young age Director Paul Marques Duarte fell in love with telling stories through the lens of a camera. He went on to study cinema at the University of Rennes and then at Sorbonne in Paris. He wrote and produced several self-funded shorts including Louis Dans Tous Les Sens, Sauver Sa Peau, Sing – Bop’s, L’emotionnerie and Ligne de Fuite. At only 23, Harbor is Marques Duarte’s first professional film.

Thomas Guentch founded the French production company Blue Hour Films. For the last few years, he has been producing short films that have screened at international films festivals. In 2017, he produced his first feature film, Headbang Lullaby by Hicham Lasri, which premiered at the Berlinale and was selected in more than 50 festivals and was widely awarded. He is now developing several French features and international co-productions.

Harbor has screened at almost 50 film festivals and won numerous awards including the student award at the Brest European Film Festival, the Unica Award for Best Short Film at the Unica Korea International Film Festival, the Best Short Film award at the Vegas Movies Awards, the FilmSlam! Audience Award at Cleveland International Film Festival, the Jury Award at the Indian World Festival and the Best Project Award at the Côté Court (Pantin).

The film stars Marie Bunel (Les Secrets), Ali Marhyar (Family Business), Victor Bonnel (Schools Out), N’Tarila Kouka (Madame) and the stunning cinematography was created by Yann Maritaud.

Harbor can soon be seen at CineMare, Dakha International Film Festival Manhattan, Festival de Cine de Alcalá de Henares, and St Louis International Film Festival.
