35mm was the rave back then, when digital cameras were not popular, today filmmaker rarely look to it to complete their short film projects for budget reasons. And Daniella Daemy has chosen the 35mm route to complete her film titled ‘My Baby Shot Me Down.

My Baby Shot Me Down is about five women and their insatiable desire for revenge as they kidnap their men for crimes of domestic violence.

“Sometimes as filmmakers we get the chance to tell a bigger message on screen, ‘My Baby Shot Me Down‘ is an experimental film shot on entirely on 35mm, about domestic violence but with a twist,” says Danella.

In the UK a woman is killed every 3 days as a result of domestic abuse. “I wanted to create a short film that would portrait the harsh reality of domestic violence and a film that gets attention for being daring, beautiful, surreal, empowering with a honest visual-experience.” says Daniella

To me, one of the purest forms of filmmaking is silent movies where images that tell the story. There is always something special about these films, that is when they’re done well; they hold attention in a purely cinematic way and what counts is spectacle and the ecstasy of what the audience is watching.

My Baby Shot Me Down falls into that long tradition of movies about the movies. I wanted to experiment visual storytelling as an art-form, where dialogue is stripped down or completely removed. It’s a way of forcing the audience to watch and ‘read’ the film in a more concentrated, and intuitive way. Instead of using dialogue I concentrated on using music for each scene, I believe that it seeks out and intensifies the inner thoughts of the characters in these scenes.
