As parents spend more on dance, acting and performance tuition than school fees, it’s no wonder the hilarious Australian parody, “Stage Mums” has more than 40 countries tuning in regularly. Stage Mums is Kath-and-Kim-cum-Dance-Mums-cum-AbFab all rolled into one.

With over 20 years experience in the industry, actress and screenwriter, Anna Waters-Massey has staged the tongue in cheek children’s entertainment industry satire in her hometown, the salubrious Gold Coast. And, having just won Best Web Series at the ASIN awards, Stage Mums looks set to become the new star of Aussie parodies.

“Australians are so good at having a laugh at themselves,” writer and lead actor, Anna Waters-Massey said. “And, it doesn’t hurt to have a cultural mirror held up every now and then.” Throwing pretentious kids, obnoxious parents, competitive eisteddfods, cutting social media and dodgy castings into the spotlight, Stage Mums: Season Two sees main characters, Shaz and Trace, continue scheming their “supertalented, triplethreat” daughters’ rise to stardom.

Shown in ‘35’ minute episodes, Shaz and Trace tackle all the ‘big issues’ while stereotypically quaffing Sav Blanc and plotting the ultimate upstaging of their dance mum nemesis, “Amanda-bloody-Kingsford-Smythe”. Waters-Massey (Shaz) and comedienne co-star, Tara Page (Trace) are no strangers to the limelight, each successful actresses and screenwriters in their own right.

“We certainly do not struggle for material,” said mother-of-two Waters-Massey, “It all comes from our own mad experiences in the entertainment industry. If I could have a dollar for every crazy thing I’ve seen and heard.” One fan and Gold Coast dance mum said, “I see traits of Shaz and Trace in so many real mothers at Eisteddfods. These are stories that actually happen – that’s what makes Stage Mums so damn funny! It’s all based on real life!”

Following the follies of Trace and Shaz is easy, with all episodes of Stage Mums: Season 1 and 2 now available to view on ‘Stage Mums’ YouTube playlist at sundayarvoprods.

Stage Mums is created and written by Anna Waters-Massey.  It stars Shaz (Anna Waters-Massey), Trace (Tara Page) shot and edited by Stephen Massey. Season 2 is directed by Cleo Massey and produced by Sundayarvo Productions.

All episodes were filmed on the Gold Coast, Queensland Season 1 of Stage Mums consist of 8 episodes, each lasting approximately 3 mins. Season 2 is also 8 episodes, lasting approximately 4-5 mins
