A La Cara by Javier Marco-Winner of the Oscar-qualifying Award 2021 Goya Awards

Javier Marco’s live-action short film A La Cara (Face To Face) shares the story of a woman who confronts a man who has been abusing her online. This topical film has screened at over 90 international film festivals including the Oscar-qualifying Huesca International Film Festival, Foyle Film Festival, Clermont – Ferrand Short Film Festival 2021, Brussels Short Film Festival 2021 and has won 50 Awards including the Oscar-qualifying Awards at the 2021 Goya Awards and the 2021 Cinelebu – Lebu International Film Festival.

Synopsis: A television hostess faces the man who insulted her on a social network.

Director Javier Marco’s short films have won numerous awards and have screened at international film festivals including Clermont-Ferrand, Palm Springs, Krakow, Cleveland, and Leeds. A La Cara won the 2021 Goya Award for Best Fiction Short Film. Javier’s other short Uno was longlisted for the 2018 Oscars. Marco’s first feature film Josefina will be premiering at the 2021 San Sebastian Film Festival in the competitive New director’s section. He is currently in the development of his second feature film A La Cara, co-written with the screenwriter Belén Sánchez-Arévalo, based on the short film A La Cara.

Screenwriter Belén Sánchez-Arévalo is a long-time collaborator of Javier Marco and has worked with him on his short films Muero Por Volver, Uno, El Vestido, and A La Cara. In addition, she has participated in the TV series Estoy vivo, a TVE production.

Cinematographer Santiago Racaj was nominated for the Best Cinematography Award at the 2018 Goya Awards and has worked with many films in independent Spanish cinema such as El muerto y ser feliz, La herida, Los ilusos, Magical girland Verano 1993. A professor at ECAM, Racaj also has an extensive career in the world of advertising and as the author of video clips of artists such as Vetusta Morla, Dover, or Bunbury.

A La Cara (Face To Face) will be screening at Shorts Short Mexico Film Festival from September 1st – September 30th and Libélula Dorada Short Film Festival from October 22nd – October 30th.
