
Writer and Director Dekel Berenson’s live-action short follows the story of Anna, a single mother living in Ukraine and looking for love. This topical story is the only British short that has been selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival 2019 and is one of only 11 films selected from 4,200 submissions.
Synopsis: Living in war-torn Eastern Ukraine Anna is an aging single mother who is desperate for a change. Lured by a radio advertisement, she goes to a party with a group of American men who are touring the country, searching for love.
Israeli filmmaker Dekel Berenson acquired a Masters in International Relations from the Central European University in Budapest in 2006. Receiving the Best Thesis Award and graduating first in his class. Over the past three years, he has combined his passions, making artistic films of high quality that bring to light real-world social and humanitarian issues. Next year Berenson will go into production with his debut feature Adva.

Anna is a co-production between Merlin Merton’s Blue Shadows in the UK, Dekel Berenson’s 168 Wardour Filmworks, and Olga Beskhmelnytsina’s ESSE Productions House in Ukraine. Merton’s features have included 10,000 Saints starring Oscar-nominees Ethan Hawke and Hailee Steinfeld and Wild Oats with director Andy Tennant starring Oscar-winners Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange.
Salaud Morisset represents the recent 2019 Live Action Short Academy winner Skin and is distributing two of Berenson’s shorts Anna and Ashmina.
