Los Angeles, CA (August 10th, 2022) — The Oscar® Qualifying HOLLYSHORTS FILM FESTIVAL returns for its much-anticipated 18th edition from August 11- 20th, 2022, from an impressive 5000 entries, 161 female directors and 101 BIPOC directors, and nearly 400 films from this year’s exciting program. 18th Annual Oscar-Qualifying® HollyShorts Film Festival selects Jess Berry’s directorial debut of DAUGHTERS film for 2022 line-up.

Leading films for the 18th edition include DAUGHTERS directed by Jess Berry and starring Jess Berry and her non-actor mother, Janae Berry. The short film tells the story of a career-driven daughter when she’s home for a birthday visit with her family and how she comes to terms with the heart-breaking differences she has with her beloved mother. The film was shot in rural Indiana on Berry’s family farm, written by Jess Berry, and produced by Jess Berry. 

DAUGHTERS just recently won the Audience Choice award at Academy-Award® Qualifying Indy Shorts. It is presented by Heartland International Film Festival in July, and was also an Official Selection at Academy-Award® Qualifying LA Shorts International as well as No Coast Film Festival in Kansas.

DAUGHTERS collaborators include firstly Emmy-Award® winning Scott Hanson (editor & cinematographer). Secondly, award-winning Company3’s Jenny Montgomery (color). Thirdly, legendary Skywalker Sound collaborators Erin Grote (sound mix). Lastly, Liz Marston (re-recording mix). Original score composed by Sebastian Fritze

Some of the stars and filmmakers featured this year include Academy-Award® Nominee James Franco, Golden Globe and Grammy Nominee Wiz Khalifa, Emmy Nominee Colman Domingo, Rosario Dawson, Nina Dobrev, Penn Badgley, Emmy Award-winner Brian Cox, Academy-Award® Nominee June Squibb, SAG Winner Zachary Levi and more.

As previously, the winners of HollyShorts’ three top prizes will be eligible for nomination at the 2023 Oscars®. Six HollyShorts films were nominated for the 2022 Academy Awards® with two wins for Aneil Karia and Riz Ahmed’s THE LONG GOODBYE and Ben Proudfoot’s THE QUEEN OF BASKETBALL.

This year’s hybrid celebration of short films will take place in-person with screenings at world-renowned TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood and virtually through the official festival streaming platform BITPIX. DAUGHTERS is an Official Selection of the Women In Film shorts block screening on August 13th at 2:30 pm.

The annual Academy Awards® Qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival will celebrate its 18th year in August 2022. HollyShorts (HSFF) brings together top creators, industry leaders, and companies and has launched many filmmakers into the next stages of their careers. Its regular on MovieMaker Magazine’s “Top 50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee list”, also engages its community and spotlights short films year-round through monthly screenings, panels, and networking events. HollyShorts Film Festival will take place in-person between August 11-20th, 2021 at TCL Chinese 6 Theatres, with the annual Awards Gala set to take place on August 20th, 2022

Bitpix 
Born out of the Oscar® Qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival, Bitpix is a new Premium AVOD platform, featuring the world’s best short films. The platform is already live in alpha mode and available via Bitpixtv.com.
