Jocelyn Stamat (director) and Joe Russell (producer) are currently on the festival circuit with their short film ‘Laboratory Conditions‘. ‘Laboratory Conditions’ is Jocelyn Stamat’s second film short, after her web series Turbo Dates, which is quite remarkable really production. Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean) penned the script for Laboratory Conditions (the first screenplay he ever wrote) back in college at the University of California, Fullerton, when he didn’t realize there were no market for shorts.

Synopsis: A physician  investigating a missing body disrupts an unlawful experiment.

Emma Holloway (Marisa Tomei), a doctor working on the emergency floor, learns that one of her elderly male patients has been clandestinely transported by an ambulance into an unknown laboratory. As an experienced and excellent doctor, Holloway decides to step into the lab and discover a whole new but dark world.

She encounters Dr. Marjorie Cane (Minnie Driver) who’s the head of the research department. Alongside several others, she conducts a bizarre but fascinating experiment. They want to learn if the soul of the old man will survive if he dies or not. Holloway (Marisa Tomei) wants this experiment cancelled because of the inhuman practices but Cane (Minnie Driver) is persistent because she and her team are close to a breakthrough.

Which side will have the last call? Holloway and her medical staff or will it be Cane and her group studying the dark side?

My fundamental approach to filmmaking is that audiences are able to process much more information, more story, than most features (or shorts) traditionally provide. Audiences are rarely overwhelmed, but they do get bored. So my goal was to present as many intriguing ideas, and twists and turns, as we possibly could stuff into 16 minutes. “says Jocelyn Stamat

Alongside Marisa Tomei and Minnie Driver, the stellar cast includes Paulo Constanzo (Designated Survivor).

Some of the high profile film festivals Laboratory Conditions has been selected for include Tribeca Film Festival, Sitges Film Festival, St. Louis, Oregon Short Film Festival where it won the Best Cinematographer award, Oxford Film Festival, Miami International Film Festival, ScreamFest, Cleveland International Film Festival and more.

Director Jocelyn Stamat is a graduate of Harvard University and is currently adapting the League of Legends for Riot Games and previously directed Turbo Dates. Producer Joe Russell recently produced the Netflix Original film XOXO. He has produced over 100 projects and is currently in development on a number of features including Project Blackroom. Writer and Academy nominee Terry Rossio’s work spans both animation and live action. Credits include all five Pirates of the Caribbean films, Aladdin, the Oscar-winning Shrek, Déjà Vu, The Lone Ranger, Mask of Zorro and the upcoming Godzilla vs Kong. Stamat, Russell and Rossio are currently in production for their feature Dashboard Jesus and Hula Girl.
