Mauritz Brekke Solberg’s Chilling Short JULY Selected for Palm Springs International Shortfest 2022

Director Mauritz Brekke Solberg’s directorial debut JULY shares a story of high school friends whose summer holiday pranks lead to a scary situation. This thriller has been selected for the Oscar-qualifying Palm Springs Shortfest.

Logline: When Tarjei reunites with his old friends during the summer holidays, everything seems to be as it once was. But when the group is faced with a difficult choice during a childish game, Tarjei involuntarily witnesses his own moral shortcomings and begins to question everything he holds dear.

Mauritz Brekke Solberg took his Bachelor’s in directing at Westerdals Film School in Oslo and started the production company Férdi Film right out of school. His short documentary Skeleton Sea was selected for high-profile film festivals around the world and is now streaming on Amazon Prime. His bachelor project Birthright received attention as a Student-BAFTA 2018 finalist 2018 is now in development as a TV drama.

Mauritz has often written and co-directed projects with his colleague Daniel Fure Schwarz and is set to shoot his next short called Offline together with Daniel in the fall. JULY is his directional debut as an independent director.

This heart-pounding short was written by Daniel Fure Schwarz and Mauritz Brekke Solberg. JULY was produced by Rebekka Rognøy, her graduation film Dog Eat Dog won both a Student-BAFTA and a silver Student Academy Award. The beautiful cinematography was created by Jørgen Klüver.

JULY will screen at Palm Springs International Shortfest this month.
