(New York- June 29, 2021) Our Lady Lupe, a short film by Dominique Nieves and produced in association with PBS, will premiere during The Latino Experience PBS Primetime Broadcast Special on July 13, 2021. Our Lady Lupe features Latinx culture, a Latinx cast, and creator, and focuses on joy through the lens of the American Latino experience. Our Lady Lupe, written and directed by Latina filmmaker Dominique Nieves, starring Derrick Delgado (Manifest), Francisca Muñoz (FBI), Zoë Goslin (BADA), and Amilcar Javier (OITNB).

PBS Presents The Latino Experience Tuesday, July 13, 2021 9 p.m. ET

Synopsis: When 10-year-old Chico’s grandmother uses Lotería to teach him a lesson about tradition and family, he’ll embark on a mystical adventure to find a way to make up for his selfish behavior. Along the way, Chico meets a mechanic named Lupe, who may or may not be Our Lady of Guadalupe; if he can learn to make a sacrifice, he might be able to convince her to help on his journey.

The magic realism short film tells the story of a young Latino boy on an urban adventure and spans 3 generations of family.

About Dominique Nieves
Dominique Nieves is a Nuyorican filmmaker and founder of Iron Glove Productions. Nieves took a detour through medical school, but an extended turn as a patient-led to storytelling in her next act of life. Her films and scripts have garnered recognition including, CINEQUEST Top 10 Finalist, two-time Official Selection to HollyShorts Film Festival, and screenings at HBO’s New York Latino Film Festival, Google, and Facebook headquarters. Nieves has directed grant-winning films supported by Art with Impact two years in a row, allowing her the opportunity to highlight mental health on screen. Both films won an invitation into the Olive Film Collection. She has since been inducted to the Chicana Director’s Initiative, a network of professional Latina directors. In 2020, Dominique created the Read Latinx Writers Initiative, pairing over 180 aspiring Latinx writers with WGA writers and executives for script reads and mentorship. Nieves is an alumna of Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, and UCB improv.
