Slick Films’ short film ROY starring BAFTA Winner David Bradley and OSCAR® Winner Rachel Shenton is longlisted for a 2022 BAFTA

David Bradley in ROY. He is an actor, known for The World’s End (2013), Hot Fuzz (2007), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011).

ROY is a live-action short film and the directorial debut of co-writer/directors Ross White and Tom Berkeley. ROY is a funny, heart-warming tale of two lost souls who find companionship just when they need it most.

Synopsis: Trapped in a lonely existence, reclusive widower Roy (David Bradley) passes the days by cold calling strangers from the phone book, looking for brief moments of companionship. But when he accidentally calls adult hotline worker Cara (Rachel Shenton), an unlikely friendship is born that will help them both rediscover the joy of life.   

Filmmaking duo Ross White & Tom Berkeley began collaborating after meeting at drama school. Their second collaboration An Irish Goodbye, starring Seamus O’Hara, James Martin, Paddy Jenkins, and Michelle Fairley was the inaugural winner of the First Flights Short Film Fund. It recently won the coveted European Audience Award at the Oscar and BAFTA qualifying Leuven International Film Festival. ROY was made in association with their production company Floodlight Pictures.

David Bradley is best known for playing Argus Filch, in the Harry Potter series of films. Bradley’s screen work includes the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, Broadchurch, Gangs of London, Doctor Who, and most recently Netflix’s After Life to name a few. Bradley has just recently finished production on Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio expected for release in 2022.

Rachel Shenton is an Academy award-winning writer and actress. Shenton wrote and starred in the Oscar-winning film The Silent Child. She has appeared on our screens for years with regular roles in Hit TV shows such as the Comedy White Gold, Waterloo Road, and Hollyoaks, which won her a National Television nomination for best dramatic performance. In 2014, Shenton made her American TV debut on the ABC Family drama, Switched at Birth. She can be seen now portraying Helen Alderson on the fan-favorite All Creatures Great and Small for PBS Masterpiece/Channel 5.

Chris Overton is an Academy Award® winning director and the founder of Slick Films. Overton made his directorial debut with the Silent Child, for which he also received the Academy Award®. Through his company Slick Films, Chris advocates for first-time filmmakers in bringing their stories to life. ROY is Executive Produced by Chris Overton and Rebecca Harris, who is head of the film at Slick Films.

Producer Bryony Pulizzi started her career after training at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. ROY is Bryony’s debut as a producer for Slick Films, her next project Ryan Can’t Read is currently in pre-production.
