Calgary, AB – January 25, 2018 – “Super Speed Dates”, a short comedy film by Carolyn Bridget Kennedy of Demure Duchess Pictures, will be released on YouTube on February 13, 2018, after a successful run of the festival circuit that included a win for Best Original Story at Los Angeles Film Awards, among all genres.

“Super Speed Dates” is about a group of women who attend a speed dating event and meet a bunch of men who appear to be weird, or may just be honest and misunderstood. Kennedy says, “I started with the concept of whether superheroes, attending as their alter-egos, would be good dating material. I then brought in the concept of speed dating as the format for the dates.”

The jury for the Los Angeles Film Awards said, “We loved the story and the performances”. The film has received 13 total awards and laurels so far, including an Award of Merit from Canada Shorts Film Festival and a nomination for Best International Short Comedy Film at Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase. In addition, it was accepted or screened at Toronto Independent Film Festival; High Desert International Film Festival (Nevada); Austin Revolution Film Festival (Texas); Winchester Short Film Festival (UK); Super Geek Film Festival (Florida); Central Alberta Film Festival; and Airdrie Film Festival.

Kennedy wrote, produced and starred in this film, and is also credited as “Director in Training”.
Kennedy says, “Comic book fans may latch onto the characterizations and Easter eggs and enjoy it from that perspective. The answers the men give to the questions at the event reveal that they are not really “super guys” as far as potential dates.”

Neil Schell, the Director, says “Super Speed Dates, from my perspective, is a comment on the effect that Hollywood’s superhero films have on our society and how far that effect can go.”

Kennedy says “I drew from my own experiences attending speed dating events. There are standard questions one asks in that timed format. In my experience, some of the responses I got at these events varied from ‘unexpected’ to ‘bizarre’ to ‘I wish these 3 minutes were over’. I thought asking these questions of each superhero would be funny. Real life is always an inspiration for comedy”.

People can subscribe to Kennedy’s YouTube channel to receive notice of “Super Speed Dates” release on February 13, 2018, to be one of the first to view the film: www.youtube.com/carolynbkennedy. A teaser trailer is currently available.
