The Last Day Of Patriarchy-A family patriarch questions if all men’s dying wishes should be granted?

When Jakub brings his girlfriend to meet his grandfather, the family patriarch who is now lying on his deathbed, he confronts her with a startling request. A seasoned director of feature films, Omerzu was drawn to the short format for The Last Day Of Patriarchy which invites the audience to share in its moral dilemma.

After graduating from FAMU (Florida A&M University), Omerzu found success immediately with his first two films premiering at Berlinale and San Sebastian film festivals respectively. His third feature, Winter Flies, landed him six wins at the Czech Lions film awards.  It was also selected for TIFF and the Winter Flies were selected for Toronto IFF and a Czech Oscar Candidate.

With his most recent feature Bird Atlas which premiered at Karlovy Vary Film Festival, Omerzu continues his exploration of the themes of family relationships and patriarchy.

It is an exciting season for the film’s producer, Jiří Konečný (Endorfilm), whose other projects Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn by Radu Jude will also be representing Romania and 107 Mothers by Peter Kerekes will be representing Slovakia at the 94th Academy Awards. Rok Biček (Cvinger Film) is the Slovenian producer of the film, also co-produced by Hélène Mitjaville from the French production company Melocoton.

The Last Day Of Patriarchy has been executive produced by Linhan Zhang and Clifford Miu from the award-winning company Bering Pictures. It was co-produced by Czech Television and supported by Czech Film Fund and Slovenian Film Centre.

The Last Day Of Patriarchy premiered at IndyShorts and has subsequently screened at Guanajuato and El Gouna Film Festivals, with many more, including Zagreb and Leuven International Short Film Festival to come.
