‘Touch Me’ by Eileen Byrne Shares Emotional Effects of Breast Cancer

Touch Me from Eileen Byrne is an eye-opening short film that shares a story of a cancer diagnosis, which affects both partners in a relationship. This topical film was a finalist at the 2018 Student Academy Awards and won numerous awards including Best Student Director at the 2019 European Cinematography Awards. Touch Me will now screen at Palm Springs International ShortFest and Karlovy Vary International Film Festival as part of the Future program. 

Synopsis: Alice is at the beginning of her fight against breast cancer. She feels helpless despite her loving boyfriend Moritz’s best attempts to adjust to their new reality.

During her early career, Eileen Byrne worked as a script supervisor. She made several short films including Legal.Illegal and Iridescence, which were selected for numerous international festivals and also co-wrote three feature films. As a result of her mixed background, making films that deal with the subject of cultural identity is something that appeals to her. She is currently working on two feature film projects.   

In 2009 after studying production at the German Film and Television Academy, Producer Matthias Nerlich founded his first company, Little Kong Films GmbH. His second company, the Südhang Films GmbH, which was established with his colleagues Christoph Ito Herrmann and Felix Parson, has produced a wide range of internationally co-produced shorts including Manolo, which won the 2011 German Short Film Prize. The company has also produced documentaries for broadcasters including ARTE, ARD, and ZDF.

The film has been co-produced and is being distributed by Paul Thiltges and Adrien Chef from Paul Thiltges Distributions.

Touch Me will screen at Palm Springs International ShortFest on June 21 at 3:30 pm and at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on July 2 at 4 pm and July 6 at 7:30 pm.
