Unbridaled; A hangover pits step-sisters at each other, wrecks a wedding

UNBRIDALED REVIEW: by Peter Nichols | B

Synopsis
After a bachelorette party gone wrong, a buttoned-up bride, Catherine and her party-girl step sister, Maxie find themselves lost in the Vermont woods on Catherine’s wedding day.

Review
UNBRIDALED is a light hearted, sweet and silly WO-mance comedy. It is fresh, feminine and kind in its delivery. We see two women unhinged, raw, flawed, and emotionally layered. Yes! It breaks the norm, and doesn’t take itself seriously; which makes for good entertainment.

It comes on like the buddies-on-the-road comedy drama as you notice how fresh its written and ferociously performed it is. Unbridaled pushes the limits of its jokes. Its dramatic characters pulsate with energetic awkwardness. It is a contest of two female stand-up comedians whose whinge and whine lit the woods with laughter.

The toilet humor is sweet and surprisingly silly. It wasn’t grouse because it was short lived, so it is memorable. Maxie hit a great moment when she furiously vents at Catherine. She reminded us of an altogether more high-intensity kind of Jim Carey’s Mask trickster. The two had us relive that Looney Tunes energy with comedic voltage and the hyperactive energy of a six-year-old.

While much is noticeable about its attempt to define WO-mance Comedy, with a feminine visual and dialogue palette, it doesn’t fall shy of hitting all the marks. A bunch of great comedy moments tumbled in at the Waloomsac. I tirelessly fished for reasons to stop laughing. I would have loved to see more “subjective camera” for the birthday suit scenes.

It saved a fantastic scene for the climax. Catherine and Maxie deliver the most resounding comedy thrust to the film. My head falls into my hands each time I see it. The story world of Unbridaled doesn’t judge its characters; it frees them from today’s societal demands. The women are unburdened. They are freed.

The film location became a character in the movie.
