HollyShorts Film Festival 18th edition’s Grand Prix-winning short film is Hallelujah by Victor Gabriel

Los Angeles, CA – Previous HollyShorts Film Festival OSCAR® winners presented prizes at the 2022 Awards at the Chinese Theatre on August 20th, to celebrate and support the new winners.  This year’s Academy Award Winners for Live Action Short Film Riz Ahmed and Aneil Karia (The Long Goodbye), presented the Oscar-qualifying Grand Prix Best Short prize via video, for HALLELUJAH to Victor Gabriel.

For Best Live Action short – MULAQAT / SANDSTORM by Seemab Gul

Academy Award winner Jamie Ray Newman (Skin) took the stage to present the OSCAR® qualifying Best Live Action award to Seemab Gul for MULAQAT/SANDSTORM and OSCAR® winner Guy Nattiv (Skin) presented the Best Director award to Carlos Segundo for SCALE.

Best LGBTQIA+ “NORTH STAR” P.J. Palmer starring Colman Domingo

Celebrity Journalist Sandro Monetti presented the Best Animation OSCAR®-qualifying award to Joseph Pierce for SCALE, television favourite Jimmy Jean-Louis awarded the Best LGBTQIA+ to Director P.J. Palmer and Emmy Nominee Colman Domingo for NORTH STAR, whilst Black Panther actress Carrie Bernans gave the Best Action award to Kelsey Bollig for KICKSTART MY HEART.

OSCAR® Winner Ben Proudfoot takes home the Best Documentary award for his film MINK! ZEIS presented the HollyShorts Film Festival Achievement in Filmmaking and Cinematography to Nancy Schreiber. EPIC Dread presented the Best Horror award to Nuhash Humayun for his film MOSHARI

Kodak’s Steve Bellamy presented the Best Shot on Film award to Marija Apcevska for NORTH POLE, he also awarded the Kodak Shot on Film Super 8MM to James P. Gannon and DEERWOODS DEATHTRAP and he gave a Kodak Shot on Film Honorable Mention to Marleen Valien for NOT IN THE 80’S. HollyShorts Film Festival 2023 edition will be held from August 10th-19th.

Best Horror “MOSHARI” Nuhash Humayun

Three films from HollyShorts Film Festival’s 18th edition are moving on to be qualified for Oscar® gold in 2023. The festival took place this week in-person at the TCL Chinese Theatres, Japan House LA and various locations throughout Hollywood. The online edition of the festival will be available on Bitpix TV, the festival’s digital platform until August 28, 2022.
