A New”Cinematic Monologues” film festival in Agrinio, Greece

A different film festival – Agrinio film festival, focusing on cinematic monologues, opened up its submissions this October. This is the second edition of the festival and it takes place in the Greek city of Agrinio. Agrinio was the birthplace of the famous, mythical queen of Sparta, Leda (mother of Helen of Troy a.k.a “Beautiful Helen”). Queen Leda is also the emblem of the festival.

“The film festival is focusing on cinematic monologues,” says the founder and chairman of the festival, Greek director George Louridas.

“It makes it easier for people, who have no budget to make large-scale cinema, to shoot a monologue even with a cheap camera, or even with their smartphones.”

“Moreover, we live in an epoch where the condensation of information is very important. People want a lot of information in a short time.“

The first edition of the festival took place online in May 2021 due to the pandemic health crisis. “The first edition of the festival was a big success, with over 5.000 views in just 3 days, both in the festival’s page and the festival’s channel. There were participants and an audience from all over the world.”

The closing ceremony for Agrinio film festival

“It was a massive hit for a first-time-created, small festival with no advertising power. Agrinio International Film Festival is accessible to everybody, from industry professionals to amateur enthusiasts.”

The film festival held premieres that included Louise’s Depardieu first film appearance “Je Reviens Vers Moi” with Bénédicte Nécaille and Sophie Blondy in direction. After the online event, a live-screening event of the awarded films and monologues was held in Agrinio on September 25th. The festival’s next edition will be held in May 2022. Anyone interested to participate in a short film, or cinematic monologue, can do it through the festival’s Filmfreeway.

The winners of the festival in the categories “Best Short Film“, “Best Cinematic Monologue of Agrinio“, “Best International Film Monologue“, “Best Monologue – Audience Award” and “Best Short Film – Audience Award“, will receive a symbolic monetary prize and advisory support for their next short script.

The Agrinio film festival has the intention to attract international film productions in Agrinio and in the region of Aetoloakarnania in Greece.
