Philadelphia is a city that is passionate about film, and this was evident at a star-studded gathering the opening weekend of Sundance 2020 hosted by Alkemy X and its partners for the event, The Philadelphia Film Society and Merrill Lynch. Held at Flanagan’s Tavern on Main Street on January 25th, the exclusive soirée featured filmmakers and celebrities from the region with projects in this year’s festival, including actress Aubrey Plaza, at Sundance with the Sundance Dramatic Competition feature Black Bear, and Farewell Amor, Softie, Spaceship Earth and Feels Good Man Executive Producer Jenifer Westphal of Wavelength Productions, among many others.

“We celebrate Philadelphia talent and producers at Sundance, together with The Philadelphia Film Society, to highlight the thriving entertainment hub that is our corporate headquarters,” says Justin Wineburgh, President & CEO of Alkemy X. “While we also have offices in New York, Los Angeles and Amsterdam, Philadelphia is extremely conducive to attracting and retaining top creative talent and cutting edge technology, plus the incredible producers and engineers, that are vital to our work.” For Wineburgh, hosting a top-tier gathering at Sundance is a strategic annual undertaking.

“Every single Sundance filmmaker can utilize the services provided by Alkemy X, whether it be our editorial, visual effects, picture finishing, color correction or audio engineering services.” Alkemy X’s top entertainment projects this year included Emmy-winning “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Fear the Walking Dead,” and “Blindspot,” as well as the upcoming feature film “In The Heights”, and the Alkemy X-created and produced reality series “Dragnificent!” for TLC.

Additional notable Philadelphia filmmakers celebrated at the exclusive Sundance party included J. Andrew Greenblatt, CEO & Executive Director, Philadelphia Film Society; Inuka Bacote, Producer of The 40 Year Old Version; Hallee Adelman, Executive Producer of The Social Dilemma and Associate Producer of The Truffle Hunters and Us Kids; and Mike Jackson, Managing Partner of Get Lifted Film Company, which he founded with John Legend.
