“Before You” Touches on the Resilience of Women Facing Impossible Choices in America

Los Angeles, CA (March 11, 2025). “Before You,” Writer, Director, and Producer Lauren Melinda is an award-winning Persian-American filmmaker. She is the founder of Simbelle Production, a non-profit dedicated to empowering women through film.

She is currently developing her first narrative feature, Echoes. Plus a TV series on her Ukrainian great-grandmother. Who worked as a midwife to the Shah of Iran. Melinda shares. ”At the heart of Before You lies a deep commitment to foster meaningful dialogue around reproductive healthcare and bodily autonomy.”

Producers Helena Sardinha and Rafael Thomaseto’s latest project is The Ballad of Tita and The Machines. It was revered by the LA Times and Forbes. They are currently developing its feature-length adaptation. It is supported by the Sundance Institute through their Producers and Screenwriting Labs.

The film stars Tala Ashe (DC’S Legends of Tomorrow) and Adam Rodriguez (Criminal Minds).

During its recent festival run, Before You is already in selection at many international festivals. The St. Louis International Film Festival and the Cordillera International Film Festival. This important film is soon to be at the Santa Fe Film Festival. NFMLA, Filmfort, Cascadia International Women’s Festival, and Cleveland International Film Festival on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 12:00pm.

Lauren Melinda
She is an award-winning Persian-American filmmaker and founder of Simbelle Productions. Lauren started in photography and mixed-media art. She found her voice as a director, creating films that explore women’s identities and challenge societal expectations. Her three short films have made a significant impact. They are screening at 45 festivals globally and winning top prizes at six of them.
