Los Angeles, CA (August 28, 2025). Haunted by the brutal legacy he passed down, a retired bare-knuckle fighter confronts the cost it had on his son as he prepares for the final, most personal fight of his life. Julia Weisberg Cortés – is the Writer and Director of Boyfighter, Mayte Avino serves as Producer and Michael Mando (Diego) is the main cast.

Logline: As a father (Michael Mando) confronts the greatest tragedy in his life, memories of his past as a bare-knuckle street fighter resurface—forcing him to reckon with how this shaped the destiny of his young son.

Woven between past and present, Boyfighter reveals a legacy of violence; and a fragile search for hope among the ashes.

What started out as a little girl’s means for escape, story has since grown into Julia’s life calling.

Julia Weisberg Cortés
Julia Weisberg Cortés is a Chicana writer and director based in Mexico City and Los Angeles. She became the first woman in her family to pursue a creative higher education, receiving her bachelor’s in screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University. Julia has gone on to pursue her passions as a filmmaker; directing and writing award-winning shorts, features, and television.

Julia’s original pilot The Golden Children won her a spot in the renowned Humanitas New Voices program. She is also an alumni of Tomorrow Filmmakers Today program and Warner Bros. Discovery. Thematically, her work proudly integrates the survival stories of the women in her family with the often lost or overlooked voice of the Mexican-American woman. Through her stories, Julia endeavors to capture that universal life source; pursuing narratives that hold space for courage, honesty, and hope.
