Los Angeles, CA (Oct 16, 2023). Written and directed by Lloyd Lee Choi, CLOSING DYNASTY follows 7-year-old Asian-American Queenie, brimming with confidence and swagger as she fearlessly scours the subways and streets of New York City alone, scheming different ways to make a dollar.

This incredibly thought-provoking short film won the coveted Crystal Bear for Best Short (Generations) at Berlinale, Audience Award at SXSW, and Best US Short at Palm Springs Int’l Shortsfest. Closing Dynasty is in qualification and in consideration for a 2024 Academy® Award.

Logline: On a school day, a precocious seven year-old girl, Queenie, hustles and schemes ways to make money on the streets of New York City.

Lloyd Lee Choi is a Korean-Canadian writer and director now living in Brooklyn. He is deeply passionate about highlighting the stories and examining the lives of those on the fringes. His last short film, SAME OLD (2022), world premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, receiving a Special Jury Mention at TIFF and winning Best Short at Raindance.

Producer Jonathan Hsu has produced multiple award winning commercials, music videos, and films. He has worked as an Executive Producer on the horror movie A Wounded Fawn for Tribeca 2022’s Midnight Program, and his first feature documentary film Starring Jarry As Himself world premiered at Slamdance 2023 for a hat trick of Grand Jury, Audience Award, and Best Actor. He is a fellow for Film Independent’s Fast Track 2022 program. Jon is proud to produce a film for the inaugural Netflix x Gold House x Tribeca Future Gold Fellowship and hopes to use the experience to mentor others in production.

Milinka Winata is just 6 years old at the time of playing the part of Queenie. Closing Dynasty is her debut film. The stunning cinematography is by Christopher Lew, with Charles Humenry providing the music composition.

Closing Dynasty is in qualification for consideration for a 2024 Academy® Award.
