The film is directed and written by Ralph Cinque. Dovey’s Promise tells the remarkable true story of Civil Rights attorney Dovey Roundtree. Who took on the racially charged 1965 Towpath Murder Trial—and won. This landmark film highlights a pivotal but often overlooked moment in American legal history. With themes of racial injustice, government overreach, and the power of one woman’s voice in the pursuit of truth.
Synopsis: On October 12, 1964, Mary Pinchot Meyer, the last mistress of JFK, was murdered on the towpath in Georgetown, and the hapless Raymond Crump was charged with the crime. But, famed Civil Rights attorney Dovey Roundtree knew he was innocent, and she took on a bevy of government lawyers to prove it. It was Dovey versus the U.S. Department of Justice. It wasn’t fair, but they just had to take their chances.
