Good Boy – Oscar® Shortlisted, Live Action Short Film (2023)

Loa Angele, CA (January, Date, 2024). Director Tom Stuart’s Good Boy, inspired by a personal experience of grief. It is officially on the shortlist for the 2024 Academy® Award. The hotly anticipated quirky short takes you on the lighthearted journey of a desperate young man (Ben Whishaw). As he drives his battered VW van with his mother (Marion Bailey) in the back. A dead pigeon in the passenger seat, and a growing sense of desperation.

Synopsis: Danny’s attempt to rob a bank with his overbearing mum is scuppered by the appearance of their family doctor. As he desperately seeks a way forward. Danny finds himself confronted by bizarre manifestations from his past. And we start to sense that everything is not as it seems…

‘Good Boy’ is the directorial-debut of Tom Stuart. Co-writer of ‘MAINSTREAM’ which premiered at the 77th Venice Film Festival in 2020. The comedy-drama stars three-time BAFTA-winner Ben Whishaw (WOMEN TALKING, PASSAGES) and two-time SAG award-winner Marion Bailey (Netflix’s THE CROWN). The film is a production by Kay Loxley, Max Marlow, Elettra Pizzi and Tom Stuart for 130 Elektra Films.

With Executive Producers Alex Gonzalez, acclaimed filmmaker Gia Coppola, and CEO of Goldcrest Films, Chris Quested. ‘Good Boy’ is proudly under an endorsement from Bristol-based grief charity ‘Let’s Talk About Loss’. It’s edit by BAFTA-winning editor Selina MacArthur (THIS IS GOING TO HURT).

GOOD BOY  has qualified to be considered for a BAFTA® for Best British Short Film. A 2024 Academy® Award for Best Live Action Short Film.

Following a successful preview screening at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. At which actress Tilda Swinton praised the project as “a beautiful film”. ‘GOOD BOY’ is has premiered at Leeds Film Festival (UK). Subsequently screened at PÖFF (Estonia), and Aesthetica Short Film Festival (UK). Izmir International Film Festival (Turkey) and Norwich Film Festival (UK) where was shortlisted in the Best British Short film selection.
