Los Angeles, CA (August 28, 2025). Leading films for the 21st edition include One Day This Kid Directed by Alexander Farah and starring Massey Ahmar, Mahan Mohammadinasab and Elyas Rahimi. The short film, loosely based around David Wojnarowicz’s renowned text “One Day This Kid,” is an exploration of silent struggle and unspoken tension as Hamed, a first-generation gay Afghan man, navigates an undefined future with his father.

Inspired by Farah’s personal experiences coming of age, the film is in Dari/Fari and English, and was shot in and around Vancouver, Canada and was written by Farah himself, and produced by Joaquin Cardoner, alongside co-production companies Wallop Film, Boldly, Nimruz and Section80.

The film premiered at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival last year, and just a few months ago, won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Short at the SXSW Film & TV Festival where it was hand-picked by Andrew Scott as part of a curation in partnership for Redbreast Irish Whiskey.

Alexander Farah is the writer and director, as Joaquin Cardoner serves as Producer. Farhad Ghaderi is the DOP. The cast is Massey Ahmar (Hamed), Mahan Mohammadinasab (Hamed Teen), Elyas Rahimi (Hamed Child), Mostafa Shaker (Waleed), Phil Boutros (Man in Mosque).
