City of Toronto poignant short film by HAUI™ celebrating hidden histories and untold stories.

TORONTO, State name (Aug 10, 2024). Directed by HAUI™ and featuring choreography performed and devised with Rodney Diverlus and Jera Wolfe, Private Flowers is a powerful short film commissioned by the City of Toronto for Pride. The film unveils a deeply moving narrative set within the dark chapters of Canada’s history, where an Infantryman dares to seek solace in the arms of another man amidst the chaos of war. Their poignant love story, tragically cut short, illuminates the bonds of queer love against the staggering backdrop of 80 documented cases of criminal charges related to acts of sodomy within the military.
“Private Flowers is more than just a film; it’s a tribute to the resilience of love and identity in the face of oppression,” said HAUI™, the film’s director. “This story sheds light on the often forgotten and marginalized narratives within our history.”
A Celebrated Journey Across Festivals
Having screened internationally, Private Flowers made its world premiere at the Pan African Film Festival. The film continues to resonate with audiences, with upcoming screenings at the Pathways Indigenous Arts Festival this August and The Atlanta Black Pride LGBTQ International Film Festival.
