Directing duo Cliqua make their narrative debut with the OSCAR® qualified Shut Up & Fish

Los Angeles, CA (January 14, 2024). Shut Up & Fish from directing duo Cliqua presents a unique insight into Latino youth culture in America, examining themes of social identity, belonging and authentic character. The story follows an adolescent named Aiden following his initiation into a gang of boys, forcing him to confront the values he holds. This striking coming-of-age short film was selected for the prestigious HollyShorts Film Festival and has qualified to be considered for the 2025 Oscars®.

Cliqua is a directing duo formed by LA filmmakers – Raul Sanchez and Pasqual Gutiérrez. Coming from a music video background, they were quintessential in the new Reggaeton wave, working closely with Bad Bunny, Rosalia and J Balvin. Cliqua’s narrative music video work with The Weeknd over the past two years has garnered them international attention. Their latest VMA-winning video co-stars Squid Games’ HoYeon Jung and features Jim Carrey. They are currently working on a feature film version of Shut Up & Fish titled The Golden Boy.

As a producer, Sarah Park strives to challenge today’s narrative and elevate unique voices to the forefront. Through the years, Sarah has produced award-winning work across various mediums of film. Along with her impressive commercials with major brands like Adidas and Louis Vuitton, her most renowned works are with some of the biggest artists in the world – Billie Eillish, Harry Styles, and The Weekend to name a few. She went on to helm as an executive producer at the global production company, Pulse Films. There she further developed talent and projects that pushed the visual story-telling spectrum. Her work has been showcased and won at major festivals/shows such Cannes, Sundance, SXSW, VMA, CameraImage, Ciclope. She continues today to work closely with rising talent with the same desire to break boundaries.

Hailing from the city of San Francisco, producer Douglas Riggs attended the prestigious film school at Chapman University in Orange County in the early 2000’s. Over the last decade, living and working in the heart of Hollywood, Douglas has produced nearly 100 stand-alone pieces of branded content (Major Lazer, Seventeen, Vogue), surpassing 1 billion views online, as well as nationally televised commercials (Brewers Association “Seek the Seal”, Servpro). He has won international awards in the interactive AR/VR space for client Redbull and delved into the fine-art world, producing globally recognized works of photographic art hand in hand with artists (David Yarrow Photography).

“Burros” premiered at Tribeca as 9th narrative short from Douglas (“I Was There Too” Joey Izzo, Short of the Week). And, tallied eleven major festival awards, catapulting it to qualification for the 95th Oscars. Setting a foundation of success in commercial advertising and award winning narrative content. Douglas focuses on developing and executing feature length films under his Steak & Rosé LLC banner. Headquartered in the Hollywood Dell, California.
