Silent Partner with Roderick Lawrence and Emmy award-winner Michael Park questions social justice

Created by Roderick Lawrence and written/directed by Aristotle Torres, SILENT PARTNER follows an accomplished, Black trial attorney who was pressured into defending a white woman who was charged with murdering a Black teen by his white-shoe law firm. This topical film premiered at the Oscar-qualifying The Run & Shoot Martha’s Vineyard African-American Film Festival.

Synopsis: After winning a controversial case, a Black attorney (Roderick Lawrence) at a white-shoe law firm questions the legitimacy of his recent promotion.

The film’s creator, producer, and star Roderick Lawrence is the Co-Founder of Black Man Films. He is an unapologetic Blacktivist who helped start many Black Lives Matter initiatives in the Broadway and acting communities. He has been active with civil rights groups in his native Cleveland and NYC. A 2020 AUDELCO nominee, Roderick’s credits include Simba in Disney’s THE LION KING National Tour, Ramses in the Broadway-bound THE PRINCE OF EGYPT, and Othello in John Leguizamo’s OTHELLO: THE REMIX.

Writer and Director Aristotle Torres built his career directing music videos, experimenting with photography, and telling award-winning stories. He was chosen as a Sundance Film Festival 2019 Feature Film Fellow, developing his debut film, “STORY AVE”, which begins production Fall ‘21; starring Caleb McLaughlin and Luis Guzmán with Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner producing. The journey into narrative filmmaking began in 2015 when he wrote and directed his first short film, “S2T”, a loose adaption of Notorious BIG’s “I Got A Story To Tell”. Sean “Puffy” Combs went on to purchase the film. Shortly after he went on to produce the feature film “ARE WE NOT CATS” which won the Audience Award at Venice Film Festival and was purchased by Magnolia Pictures.

Black Man Films Producer Salma Qarnain has earned 30 Helen Hayes Nominations and 9 Awards; as an artist (professional name Salma Shaw), she is a two-time Helen Hayes Award recipient, an AUDELCO nominee and received her B.S., from Stanford; S.M., and her MIT; MBA from Harvard Business School.

SILENT PARTNER stars Roderick Lawrence (BROAD CITY), Kara Young (AMAZON’S CHEMICAL HEARTS), and the multiple Emmy-winning actor Michael Park (STRANGER THINGS). The stunning cinematography was created by Eric Branco (40-YEAR-OLD VERSION). 

SILENT PARTNER will be screening at the NY Latino Film Festival presented by WarnerMedia (Sep. 13-19 in NYC), Catalina Film Festival (Sep. 17-19; Sep. 24-26; premiere date is Sep. 18 in Block 4, 5-7 pm) and the Detroit Black Film Festival (Sep. 23-26).
