Southpaw is directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Jake Gyllenhaal , Oona Laurence and Forest Whitaker. The story revolves around a boxer who loses everything after his wife’s tragic death. He seeks help from a coach to get his life and daughter back.
The movie is great but not perfect. Jack Gyllenhaal gives an Oscar worthy performance, it is doubtful that it will be nominated. The fight scenes are beautifully shot, they are intense, and the sound effects were great. The problem with the movie is its cliched; it is similar to Rocky III. The training montage wasn’t big enough and the bond between Jake’s and Forest’s character didn’t get enough screen time. The whole movie was shown in the trailer. In the end Southpaw is a must see movie for Gyllenhaal performance but don’t expect anything new to the boxing genre.
