Lee Knight Directs Miriam Margolyes, BAFTA Winner in “A Friend of Dorothy”
Los Angeles, CA (August 29th, 2025). Dorothy played by BAFTA winner Miriam Margolyes is a lonely widow whose body is failing, but her mind remains as bright as ever. When 17-year-old JJ (Alistair Nwachukwu) accidentally kicks his football into her garden, he upends Dorothy’s daily routine of pills, prunes and crosswords, and an unlikely friendship blossoms.
In A Friend of Dorothy, despite being worlds apart in every way, the two come to find they have more in common than they could ever imagine. The cast includes Stephen Fry (Wilde, Gosford Park) and Oscar Lloyd (Stranger Things: The First Shadow).
Lee Knight is the writer and director of A Friend of Dorothy. James Dean, Scottie Fotré and Max Marlow as producers on the short film. A Friend of Dorothy is a BAFTA-qualifying & Award-winning short film. The cast of the short film, A Friend of Dorothy include Miriam Margolyes (as Dorothy). The rest of the cast are Alistair Nwachukwu (as JJ), Stephen Fry (Dickie), Oscar Lloyd (Scott), and Lee Knight (Tom).
The short film is the writing and directorial debut of actor Lee Knight who also serves as executive producer. Lee is best known for appearing opposite Ian McKellen in Prime Video’s Hamlet and for roles in two Harry Potter films.
