The film by Martin Winter. Day Release is a story of a young woman behind bars. Who is trying to do the best for her son. Day Release won numerous high profile international film awards. It is in nomination for the Oscar-qualifying award at Palm Springs.

Synopsis: A single mother by the name Kathi receives day release from prison. She finds her three-year-old son who is living with her unstable mother in bad circumstances. She is forced to find a way to enable a better future for him. While time is against her she has to be back in prison at 6 pm.

German Director Martin Winter studied Directing and Cinematography at the Vienna Film College. There he created numerous short films and documentaries. Day Release (Freigang) is a production after his graduation. He premiered it in competition at the 40th Filmfestival Max Ophüls Prize. The film is in nomination for the German Newcomer Award and First Steps Award in Berlin. It awarded and nominated at numerous film festivals all over the world. This festivals include the Austrian Film Award for Best Short Film.

Austrian Producer Sebastian Schmidl studied Directing and Screenwriting at the Vienna Film College. His films include Darling which had its premiered. It competed at the 37th Filmfestival to win Max Ophüls Prize and numerous international awards. Crush my Heart was his first feature as a screenwriter. In 2019, he collaborated with his producing partner Victoria Herbig on the Day Release as a writer/producer. He is currently working on the screenplay for his first directing-feature film. Which he is a recipient of the BKA award – the scholarship for Cinematic Art.

The cast is Anna Suk (Kathi), Christopher Legedza (Christopher), Birgit Linauer (Eva), Patrick Schmidl (Robert), Daniela Zacherl (Sylvia). The crew includes Director Martin Winter. Producer Victoria Herbig, and Sebastian Schmidl. Also Writer Sebastian Schmidl and Director of Photography Aram Baroia.
