My journey as a performer began years ago with music, which organically led me to storytelling and acting. While this might be my first formal interview in this capacity, the artist in me was triggered by my admiration for actors like Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal… I haven’t acted in a professional setting yet, because I am meticulously preparing into it.

indieactivity: How has your acting improved?
Rayan Hamda Barhoumi (RHB):
While I haven’t yet been formally trained, I’ve studied independently. I focus mainly on naturalistic acting inspired by the Stella Adler techniques. I practice monologues, movement, and physicality at home, especially action-oriented performance and work on building strong emotional recall. I want to be ready for roles that are both intense and nuanced, especially for Jackrabbit, the character I created.

Telll us about Jackrabbit?
Rayan Hamda Barhoumi (RHB):
Jackrabbit is a fictional universe I’ve been building for over 6 months. The idea came from my passion for action dramas and psychological thrillers. It follows Rogue Majedri, a morally complex character navigating a broken system. The project draws strong inspiration from Daredevil and the MCU, but with a twist: the story takes place in France.

I believe there’s a lot of untapped potential in building a Marvel-style cinematic universe outside of America, one that reflects other cultures and perspectives. Jackrabbit is my attempt to explore that idea while combining my interests in storytelling, action, music, and social commentary. I wrote the script, composed the music, and hope to portray the main role when the time comes.

Give a background of your personal experience with the story, writing, and production of your script?
Rayan Hamda Barhoumi (RHB):
Writing Jackrabbit has been an emotional and intense experience. The story is personal in many ways; it blends fiction with my own struggles, dreams, and cultural questions. Since I’m also a composer, the soundtrack came naturally alongside the script. Every part of the process has been driven by passion. The production hasn’t started yet, but the script was written with the energy and detail of a project already in motion. Every scene is alive in my mind, making me ready to execute the vision when the time comes.

How long did you take to complete the script? (Do you have a writing process?)
Rayan Hamda Barhoumi (RHB):
I spent nearly a year working on the first full version. I write in phases: first, I build the universe, then the arc of the characters, and finally the dialogues. I usually write late at night, when the world is quiet and I can fully visualize the scenes in my head including the camera work, sound design, and even the fights.

What works better in this latest production that mightn’t have worked so well in the last one you did?
Rayan Hamda Barhoumi (RHB):
This is my most developed work so far. I’ve done other creative projects before: albums, short stories, but Jackrabbit is the first time everything connects: music, script, visual identity, and acting. It feels like the project where all my skills finally align.

Can you tell us about your marketing activities on the project – and how it’s gone for you?
Rayan Hamda Barhoumi (RHB):
Since the project is still in pre-production, most of the promotion is focused on building a recognizable personal brand. I’ve released music under the name Lytcheess, created an IMDb profile, and built an official website. I’m also active on various creative platforms, and I plan to use interviews like this to bring more visibility to the story and its potential.

Did you know you wanted to be a composer? How did you start and what led you to where you are today?
Rayan Hamda Barhoumi (RHB):
Music was my first passion. I’ve been composing since my teens. It started with beats and evolved into full cinematic scores. That’s what led me to writing for the film. I realized music wasn’t enough; I wanted to build entire worlds. So I let music guide me into storytelling, and now into acting.

As a film composer, it is all about the application of music. Educate us about what you do and how you do it. How do you do “your style” of music and score for film?
Rayan Hamda Barhoumi (RHB):
I compose based on emotion and rhythm. I start with a mental image or a key scene, and from there, I build textures and motifs that reflect the character’s psychology. My style is a hybrid, blending the orchestral tension of Hans Zimmer with the ambient, electronic textures of Cliff Martinez to create something cinematic, but deeply emotional and personal.

How was your experience collaborating as a writer, composer with the director on this film?
Rayan Hamda Barhoumi (RHB):
Since I’m both the writer and composer, and also plan to direct the pilot myself, the collaboration is internal but intense. It’s a constant dialogue between the script and the music. Sometimes the score changes the scene, and sometimes the script reshapes the tone of the score. It’s all interconnected.

While writing the music to the film, what scenes were the hardest to do? And why?
Rayan Hamda Barhoumi (RHB):
Since Jackrabbit hasn’t been filmed yet, I haven’t scored the full project but while developing the concept and writing the script, I’ve already imagined how the music would sound for certain emotional beats. I believe one of the hardest scenes to compose music for will be the moment when Rogue is betrayed by someone he deeply trusted. It’s a pivotal turning point in the story, emotionally intense, slow-burning, and full of inner conflict. Capturing that raw vulnerability through music, without falling into clichés, will be one of the biggest artistic challenges for me.
