Minh Collins, Director of Rocking The Couch, Explains His Vision

Minh Collins is also the Founder of Hollywood Florida Film Festivals

Q: When did you begin making movies?
Minh Collins: I directed my first short film “Gratuity” in 2004. Then followed a TV pilot “Bottom Feeders” in 2009. My first full length feature film “Hit List” was shot in 2010.

Q: And why movies? What was it about movies that had you fixed on building a career around making them?
Minh Collins: I wanted to be a professional athlete but an injury kept me from pursuing that career path. My hobbies as a child were painting and photography so film is a natural combination of both mediums.

Q: Most cite “Star Wars” as one of the films that spurred them towards a career as a filmmaker. What film was it for you?
Minh Collins: If I had one film that was an inspiration for me, it would have to be “Shawshank Redemption”. It’s a great story of justice and making it out against all odds.

Q: Are documentaries something new for you?
Minh Collins: No, I’ve worked on several documentaries in the past. I produced documentaries for the History Channel in 2005. I then worked on a documentary feature film “Man of a Thousand Face” in 2008.

Q: Where the interest in the #metoo movement?
Minh Collins: Yes, I have an interest in the movement because it’s about standing up and doing the right thing. Sexual predators can get away with their actions because one voice can be drowned out but many united voices can make a difference. Even the biggest titans in the industry like Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein are answering for their misconduct.

Q: Was it easy to get footage for the movie?
Minh Collins: Yes, finding the footage was time consuming and tedious work.  Hours were spent in the editing room.

Q: What about interviewees?
Minh Collins: The actors were easier to find and schedule for our film. Everyone involved with the Wallace Kay case were not as easy to track down because it happened back in 1992.

Q: Anyone you’d have to liked to have gotten that you couldn’t?
Minh Collins: Yes, we really wanted to have Wallace Kay talk on camera but he never responded from the numbers we found for him.  Also, we tried multiple times to have a SAG representative to appear on camera. They never sent anyone. It would have been great to have their take on what happened.

Q: Was there anything left on the cutting room floor that might be saved for the DVD extras?
Minh Collins: Yes, plenty of additional materials for the DVD. I recommend buying the DVD when it comes out.  LoL

Q: What do you hope audiences get from the movie?
Minh Collins: My hope for this movie is to help others entering into the entertainment industry to avoid making the same mistakes as the victims in the film. If we can save one individual from a sexual predator then the film has made a difference.
